NZ LAW × Wycane AI benchmarking Survey

1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how personal and firm-level information is collected, used, stored, and shared in connection with the NZ LAW AI benchmarking survey conducted by Wycane.

Wycane has been instructed by NZ LAW to design and administer an AI benchmarking survey for participants within the NZ LAW network. The survey is intended to gather insights to support sector benchmarking and inform the content and direction of workshops delivered by Wycane at the NZ LAW Conference.

Wycane is committed to protecting privacy and handling information in accordance with the Privacy Act 2020 (New Zealand) and the Information Privacy Principles.

2. Who We Are

NZ LAW
NZ LAW is the commissioning organisation for the AI benchmarking survey and represents a network of participating law firms.

Wycane
Wycane is responsible for designing, administering, analysing, and reporting on the survey on behalf of NZ LAW.

For the purposes of the Privacy Act 2020, Wycane acts as the survey administrator and data processor, and NZ LAW is the commissioning body.

3. Information We Collect

The survey may collect information including, but not limited to:

  • Firm-level information relating to operations, technology use, billing models, governance, and capability

  • Aggregated views, attitudes, and practices across participating firms

  • Optional contact details where participants choose to identify themselves or their firm

The survey is not intended to collect sensitive personal information. Participation is voluntary, and respondents may choose how much information they provide.

4. Purpose of Collection

Information collected through the survey will be used for the following purposes:

  • To produce aggregated and anonymised AI benchmarking insights for the NZ LAW network

  • To inform the design, focus, and content of Wycane-led workshops delivered at the NZ LAW Conference

  • To help NZ LAW and participating firms better understand sector-wide trends, opportunities, and challenges

The information will not be used for marketing, sales, or unrelated advisory purposes.

5. Anonymisation and Reporting

All survey responses will be aggregated and anonymised before being shared.

  • No individual respondent or firm will be identifiable in any shared outputs unless expressly agreed

  • Anonymised insights may be presented in summary reports, presentations, or workshop materials for the NZ LAW network

  • Raw, identifiable survey data will not be distributed

6. Access to Firm-Specific Information

Participating firms may, if they wish, request a copy of their own firm’s survey responses.

  • Such requests must be made directly to Wycane

  • Only the requesting firm’s information will be provided

  • No comparative or identifiable data relating to other firms will be shared

7. Disclosure of Information

Survey information will not be shared with any third party other than:

  • NZ LAW, in anonymised and aggregated form only

Wycane will not sell, rent, or disclose survey data to any other organisation or individual.

8. Storage and Security

Wycane takes reasonable steps to protect survey information from loss, unauthorised access, misuse, or disclosure. This includes:

  • Secure digital storage

  • Access controls limiting data access to authorised personnel only

  • Retention of identifiable data only for as long as reasonably necessary to fulfil the survey purpose

9. Retention of Information

  • Identifiable survey data will be retained only for the duration necessary to complete analysis, reporting, and any firm-specific requests

  • Anonymised and aggregated insights may be retained for reference and future AI benchmarking analysis

10. Your Rights

Under the Privacy Act 2020, participants have the right to:

  • Request access to personal or firm-specific information held about them

  • Request correction of any information that is inaccurate or incomplete

11. Changes to This Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time to reflect changes in legal requirements or survey practices. The most current version will be made available on the survey page.
